Alberta independent commercial broker Robinson Insurance Brokers Ltd. has announced it will move to a new “eco-office” in Edmonton on Nov. 1.

The new office is solar-powered, using a 3.4kWh Photovoltaic roof system, and uses low-wattage electronics, the company explained in a statement. It was converted from an older building using “sustainable materials.”

Company president Daniel Robinson noted in a statement that the environment is a focus for many of the broker’s clients, and it wants “to set an example of how local businesses can operate in a more environmentally conscious way.”

The company has taken other steps in the past to curb its environmental impact, including paper reduction and giving preference to local suppliers with “similar environmental concerns,” according to Robinson’s website ribrokers.ca.

Robinson provides commercial insurance in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
