Insurance software company Applied Systems has announced the opening of its Canadian data centre.

The new centre will meet what the Illinois-based company calls a growing demand for cloud-based brokerage management systems.

The new facility is its third data centre and first outside the United States. The data centre is in the greater Toronto area, allowing its Canadian customers application access and data storage within the country.

Applied notes that 94% of its new customers choose online management systems for benefits such as enhanced security against physical and electronic threats, accessibility to information from outside the office through mobile devices and better disaster recovery.

Moving to an online environment can also save brokers time on administration, allowing them to focus more on selling and servicing customers, the company notes.

“Today, more than half of our customers have moved their broker management systems online to take advantage of enhanced security, reduced operating cost, and increased access to client and policy information,” Applied Systems CEO Reid French said in a statement.

He also noted that the company has seen an increased demand for the online environment after announcing Canadian availability of TAM 12 and Epic 7 and its acquisition of Windsor, Ont.’s Compu-Quote in June.

Vancouver-based IT hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting is supplying collocation services for the data centre.
