Aviva Canada has committed to using the telematics solution from Quindell and Independent Broker Resources Inc. (IBRI), the for-profit arm of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), to execute its telematics offerings, IBAO notes in a statement Tuesday.

Welcoming the move, IBAO suggests the decision will go a long way toward supporting Ontario’s independent broker distribution channel and helping Aviva Canada offer “best in class insurance products, technology and efficient broker workflow for the industry,” reports IBAO, whose 94th annual convention is being held in Ottawa this week.

Aviva Canada – one of the country’s largest property and casualty insurance companies, with more than three million customers, 1,700 brokers and a 9% market share of the Canadian automobile insurance market – has selected Quindell as its telematics technology provider on an exclusive basis for the next five years, IBAO reports in the statement.

“This is outstanding news for our member brokers,” says Randy Carroll, CEO of IBAO. “With Aviva’s leadership in strategic thinking and entrepreneurial development combined with Quindell Plc’s expertise and depth of knowledge, I am sure that our brokers will see a positive return from this strategic partnership.”

IBAO president Chris Floyd explains that the IBRI/Quindell solution allows broker access to interpret clients’ risk profiles and adequately advise them on the most appropriate insurance product available to match their needs. “A broker-branded solution, the IBRI/Quindell solution will ensure brokers are given every opportunity to leverage and build value for both their current and future customers,” Floyd continues.

“We firmly believe that telematics and usage-based insurance solutions will benefit our customers as we are able to customize their insurance based on individual driver experience – and reward safe driving behaviour with lower premiums,” says Aviva Canada CEO Greg Somerville. “This initiative is consistent with our strategy of leveraging advanced data analytics and providing digital solutions that enhance value for our customers,” Somerville adds.
