The Insurance Council of British Columbia has suspended the license of insurance agent April Dawn Fraser for two years after finding that she had misused an ICBC insurance decal for her own personal benefit.
Fraser had allowed her car insurance to lapse because she could not pay a debt to ICBC arising from a motor vehicle accident, according to a council investigation.
She then took an ICBC insurance decal from her agency on Aug. 12, 2009 and attached it to her car without registering the decal or renewing her insurance.
She was discovered on Aug. 17, 2009, when she was pulled over by police while driving to work.
“Council viewed the former licensee’s use of the decal as akin to theft, thereby triggering questions as to her suitability,” the council decision said. “This, in council’s view, is conduct that cannot be tolerated.”
