Driver actions are a contributing factor in 63% of all police-attended crashes involving injuries and fatalities in British Columbia, according to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).
Seventy-six thousand people, on average, are injured in crashes every year in the province.
During the month of May, the province, police and ICBC are holding a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of smart driving behaviours and the impact of high-risk driving on the roads.
The police are stepping up enforcement of high-risk behaviours, including speeding, failing to yield, following too closely, ignoring a traffic control device and improper passing.
ICBC will be partnering with Speed Watch volunteers throughout the province to help make drivers more aware of the actual speed they’re travelling.
