The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction will be hosting a workshop this month on how global catastrophes affect the supply chain.

Catastrophic risk expert Paul Cutbush, senior vice president of Catastrophe Management at Aon Benfield Canada, will host the May 24 workshop, part of ICLR’s ongoing Friday Forum series.

A number of natural catastrophic events worldwide have caused billions of dollars in insured losses, but also have had a major impact on global supply chains between customers and suppliers, ICLR notes.

In the workshop, Cutbush will “illustrate how the supply chains in many key manufacturing spheres increasingly leap from one corner of the planet to another making this risk far more complex to assess and manage,” ICLR says.

Prior to joining Aon Benfield, Cutbush worked seven years as the Canadian property treaty line manager for Swiss Re Canada and eight years for the Munich Re Group, underwriting and leading global catastrophe programs.

He was also the previous chair of the Reinsurance Research Council’s Underwriting Research Committee, is a member of ICLR’s Insurance Advisory Committee.

The forum will be held May 24 at ICLR’s Toronto office (20 Richmond Street East, Suite 210) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The event will also be streamed live online via Webex webcast (RSVP for details).
