The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) is working towards making two issues papers available in 2012.
Currently, the CCIR is working on finalizing recommendations from industry consultation related to the managing general agents distribution model in the life insurance industry. Once that is complete, a CCIR committee will start to work on the role and governance of P&C managing general agencies, wholesale agencies and wholesale brokers.
The CCIR expects an issues paper on the topic to be developed for consultation sometime in the first half of 2012.
The CCIR is also expecting to publish an issues paper on electronic commerce in Fall 2012.
This will deal with issues arising from the use of the phone, fax, internet, or any other non-face-to-face method that may one day be used for the completion of transactions regarding all aspects of insurance – sales, changes to policies, claims, etc.
