Criminal record checks required as part of the certification process for new Alberta agents or adjusters can now be done online.
“As part of the application process for certification as an agent or adjuster, the Alberta Insurance Council has partnered with BackCheck, Canada’s leading provider of background checks to perform the criminal record check portion,” the Alberta Insurance Council says in an online post. “The results of your completed criminal record check will be sent by BackCheck to both yourself and to the Alberta Insurance Council.”
Requests for the criminal record check can be made online at:

The council has always required a criminal record for all first-time applicants for licensing in Alberta. It may also request individuals who are applying for a general, life, accident and sickness or adjuster certificate of authority to provide a security clearance.
Traditionally these criminal record checks have been – and still can be – obtained from the local policing authority, by attending the local office and making a request.
