Damage caused due to hail during last weeks storm in Dauphin, Manitoba are being estimated by Manitoba Public Insurance to be between Cdn$6 million and Cdn$8 million for vehicles alone, according to The Winnipeg Sun.
Large hail and 56mm of rain fell last Thursday in the area roughly 300 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg causing serious damage to cars and houses. The north end of Winnipeg was also hit by the storm and is facing an estimated Cdn$1 million to Cdn$2 million in automobile damages there, as well, the Sun reports.
Body shops are trying to keep up with increased demand, especially for windows, not just in Dauphin, but also across the province, the CBC reports.
One body shop owner, R.J. MacKenzie, manager of Speedy Glass in Dauphin, has had glass brought in from all across Canada, but its still not enough for the hundreds of calls hes received, the CBC reports.
We are going to be emptying warehouses all over Western Canada, MacKenzie told the CBC. There are hundreds, if not thousands of cars without windows, and so we are going to have some issues, but thats just a matter of time.
