Despite job insecurity and shrinking disposable incomes associated with the global recession, Generation Y adults – those born in the mid-1980s and later – still expect employers to demonstrate a commitment to improving the environment, according to a Leger Marketing poll commissioned by RSA Insurance.
“In fact, 77% agree it’s important for their company to be environmentally-friendly,” RSA reported in a press release. “One-third reported they would quit their job if they found their employer was environmentally irresponsible.”
The Leger study was conducted Aug. 2-5, representing a sample size of 1,522 Canadians aged 18 years or older. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 2.5%
Sixty-eight per cent of Gen-Y respondents reported they would actively help their company meet green standards by creating or joining an internal “green team.”
Such teams would have objectives such as water bottle reduction, paper reduction, the use of videoconferencing and Webex to hold long-distance meetings and reducing garbage and increasing recycling.
