An F-0 tornado touched down in Trois-Rivières, Quebec on Sept 4, damaging more than 70 homes, cbcnews.ca reported.
The twister uprooted trees, shattered car windows and damaged roofs when it ripped through the Saint-Therese neighbourhood in the city just after 7 pm.
An F-0 tornado is the weakest on the Fujita scale, but winds can still reach between 120 km-h and 130 km-h.
The storm prompted Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to release a statement reminding consumers affected by the storm to verify the extent of their home and auto coverage.
“Some losses, such as damage to outdoor swimming pools for example, are not necessarily included in basic home insurance policies,” IBC said.
“Damage sustained by automotive vehicles is covered under car insurance policies provided they have purchased ‘all risk’ protection, ‘comprehensive coverage’ or ‘specified perils’ protection.”
