A forest fire that broke out on Sept. 5 has forced the evacuation of 550 people near Kelowna, B.C., the Globe and Mail reports.
The 20-hectare blaze started on the west side of Okanagan Lake and has forced the evacuation of the community of Trader’s Cove and the Bear Creek provincial campsite.
As of press time, no homes have been damaged, the flames have not affected the campground and no injuries have been reported.
A wildfire in 2003 destroyed about 230 homes in Kelowna and caused roughly $500 million in insured damages.
