Gary McMillan is retiring from Chartis (Canada) in February 2012.
McMillan has agreed to remain as a non-executive chairman of Chartis’s board of directors.
His career with AIG began 36 years ago, in 1976, when the Commerce and Industry Insurance Company of Canada in Toronto hired him as a senior underwriter.
He became the CEO for Canada in 1998, when he accepted a role to oversee all nine AIG entities operating under the AIG umbrella. He led the establishment, licensing and acquisition of numerous AIG companies in Canada.
He led the project to create the Canadian Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI)-regulated company that is now Chartis (Canada) in 2008. He also helped in AIG’s efforts to divest non-core entities during this time.
