Gore Mutual was the only insurer in the standard market to consistently be ranked above average in an annual survey initiated by the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO).
The 2008 Rate Your Company Survey included 1,150 responses from brokerages, 48% of which represented broker management and 52% of which represented brokers in customer service, administrative or TSR positions.
Respondents were asked to rank insurers on a scale of one to five (with one being very poor and five being very good).
The average score for overall performance of the 18 standard market insurers was 3.92. Gore Mutual earned top scores (just under 4.5, when asked about overall performance), and Guarantee Company of North America and Lloyd’s scores ranked them second and third in the study, respectively.
Aviva Pilot (which scored just under 3.5 for overall performance), Lombard Canada and York Fire and Casualty received the lowest scores for overall performance.
In terms of innovative products and packages, the average score was 3.58, with Gore Mutual and AXA earning the top spots and York Fire and Casualty and Optimum Insurance receiving the lowest scores in the category.
When respondents were asked to rank insurers’ philosophy and directions, Gore Mutual, Dominion of Canada and Guarantee Company of North America received top marks and Aviva Pilot and RSA were the furthest below average. The average score in this category was 3.54.
