Guy Carpenter’s Donald Morrison to discuss reinsurance at ICLR’s May 2012 Friday Forum

Donald Morrison, vice president for the Canadian office of the global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, will be speaking on May 25 at the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR)’s May 2012 Friday Forum.
Morrison will speak on the history of reinsurance, why reinsurance is necessary and the basic forms of reinsurance agreements.
He will also delve into more advanced concepts and issues such as:
• the role various types of reinsurance treaties have in managing catastrophe exposures;
• issues surrounding the reinstatement of reinsurance cover after an insurers’ cat reinsurance protection has been exhausted;
• issues surrounding catastrophe XS aggregation covers;
• the rise of index linked securities/catastrophe bonds and other non-traditional forms of reinsurance;
• use of ‘sidecars;’ and
• the important role played by catastrophe modeling.
Morrison has 28 years of reinsurance experience, with the majority of that meeting the needs of Guy Carpenter’s Canadian clients. During his tenure at Guy Carpenter, Don has had many roles and responsibilities, including broker, contract drafter and analyst, premium and claims processor, and trainer for internal and external reinsurance training courses across the United States and Canada, as well as managing Guy Carpenter’s Canadian Client Support team.
Each month, ICLR hosts an informal discussion of current research and industry issues related to natural hazards. Details for the 2012 May Friday Forum are as follows:
