Carlton Insurance Brokers Inc. of Jasper, Alta., a full service brokerage that specializes in commercial auto and oil and gas, has been acquired by Hub International Limited.

Carlton places insurance for a variety of clients including trucking companies and the oil and gas industry. It also places insurance for ridesharing, personal and commercial auto, homeowners, tenants, and travel, among others.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Carlton Insurance CEO Tony Carlton will report to Doug Lyall, vice president of sales of Hub Barton, and Elizabeth Fiegehen, vice president of operations at Hub Barton, Chicago-based Hub said in a release Thursday.

Hub International was formed in 1998 through the merger of 11 Canadian brokerages.

Other Hub acquisitions include Edmonton-based managing general agent New Dimensions Underwriters Ltd. and Gamble & Associates Insurance Limited, a brokerage with nine Ontario locations including Sarnia and London. In 2007, Hub acquired commercial brokerage Hunter Keilty Muntz & Beatty, now known as HKMB Hub.

Hub also owns managing general agency Totten Insurance Group, founded in 2002 by H. Ross Totten. The MGA’s offerings include pollution liability, special event coverage (including event cancellation and contingent employers liability) and liquor liability. Ross Totten was CEO of Totten Insurance Group until 2012, when he was succeeded by Heather Masterson, who now heads Travelers Canada.
