Hurricane Igor leaves Newfoundland a $100 million price tag for damages

Tom Hedderson, Newfoundland and Labrador’s acting minister responsible for emergency preparedness, toured damaged areas of the province with premier Danny Williams on Sept. 22, one day after the storm ripped through south eastern Newfoundland.
Hedderson told CBC the repair bill would likely cost at least three or four times the $27 million incurred by tropical storm Chantal in 2007. That particular storm caused an estimated $5.8 million in insured damages, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
