The Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) is gearing up for the 2012 Bank Act review, urging brokers to get politically involved in advance of the federal government’s mandatory five-year review of the legislation.
“We have to be ready to represent our views and those of Canadian consumers, because that is how we will maintain the status quo,” IBAC president Justin MacGregor said in a speech to delegates attending the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C.’s 62nd Annual Conference & Trade Show on June 17.
“I therefore throw every broker the following challenge. I’ll ask every broker and every brokerage to do one of the following things over the next 12 months:
•join a political party;
•attend a political fundraising event;
•join a riding association;
•donate once a year to an MP or a candidate; and
•attend provincial and federal political conventions
“This is what grassroots activity is about and we have to keep at it.”
