Canada has a new majority government, and the challenge now is for brokers to make themselves known to the new Members of Parliament, Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) president Dale Rempel says.
Rempel succeeded IBAC past president Fraser Lyle at the IBAC annual general meeting held in Banff, Alberta on Sept. 24.
In his first address as the association’s president, Rempel stressed the importance of brokers using their relationship-building skills to strengthen their ties with industry partners and stakeholders. These would include regulators, insurers and other insurance industry stakeholders including the government.
“This year, [building relationships is] almost more important in some of these areas than it has been before,” Rempel said. “We just had an election. We had a majority [federal] government. But in saying that, there are a lot of new MPs that have been elected into Parliament.
“Our goal over the next year or two has to be to get out there to all of these new MPs. We’ve done a lot of work on the Bank Act and other areas, but our challenge now is to get out and get to know the new MPs and let them know what we are all about.”
