IBAO recognizes outstanding members through inaugural awards

The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) held its inaugural Awards of Excellence Gala, giving recognition to six outstanding brokers during its 88th Annual Convention in Toronto in October.
The winners of the 2008 IBAO Awards of Excellence, listed below, were selected from among the 10,000 brokers represented by the IBAO for their outstanding work as businesspeople, and for their community involvement.
•    Individual broker: Keith Miller, W.B. White Insurance Ltd., Oshawa. Miller has been in the insurance industry for 23 years, having taught at Durham College for 18 of those, and is an active member of many community organizations.
•    Young broker: Monica Dale, Dawson & Keenan Insurance & Financial Services, Sault Ste. Marie. Dale is currently serving as the president of the Sault Insurance Broker Association and volunteers for Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving and the Algoma District School Board’s council coordinating committee.
•    Affiliate: Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton (IBAH). IBAH members serve on community organizations such as Neighbours to Neighbours (a centre for the unemployed and working poor) and City Kidz (an organization that teaches positive attitudes and behaviours to children);
•    Brokerage (under 10 brokers): James Purcell Insurance Broker Ltd., Spencervill. This brokerage provides support for community golf tournaments, a minor soccer team and the local hockey association, among others; and
•    Brokerage (over 10 brokers): Smith Petrie Carr & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd. (SPCS), Ottawa. SPCS partners with many community groups, including the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA for the Safe Kids program.
“Insurance brokers are known to be very involved in their community,” said IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “It’s a pleasure to honour these brokers for their dedication to their profession and their communities.”
