The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) announced Temagami, Temiskaming Shores, Sault Ste. Marie, Chatham-Kent, Timiskaming District and Aamjiwnaang (First Nations) were the Ontario communities with the highest participation rates per capita in the Emergency Preparedness Challenge presented by Emergency Management Ontario (EMO).
The Emergency Preparedness Challenge, which ran throughout the month of May, is a provincial initiative aimed at increasing Ontarians’ awareness and understanding of emergency preparedness.
IBC will present each of the winning communities with $2,000 each, which can be used to further enhance their local emergency preparedness programs.
Additionally, IBC will recognized four Ontario schools for their commitment to emergency preparedness. Each winning school, randomly selected from eligible entries received throughout the month of May, will receive $1,500 from IBC.
The winning schools are: Ruthven Public School (Kingsville), Princess Elizabeth Public School (Orangeville), Don Mills Collegiate Institute (North York) and École élémentaire catholique Saint-Joseph (Sturgeon Falls).
