ICLR policy director elected as Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society

Dr. Gordon McBean, the Institute of Catastrophic Loss Reduction’s director of policy, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
The society is dedicated to imparting a broader knowledge and deeper appreciation of Canada – its people and places, its natural and cultural heritage and its environmental, social and economic challenges. Fellows are elected for life, and are expected to contribute to the activities of the society or to the objectives and programs of the society.
McBean’s research interests are in atmospheric and climate sciences, ranging in scope from the natural sciences to the policies of governments and peoples’ responses to them. He is currently undertaking research on evaluating the performance of weather and environmental prediction systems, the changing climate and weather systems in the Arctic and investigating the role of changing government policies on the ability of national laboratories and organizations to support Canadian activities.
He was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2010.
