Report Impaired Drivers (RID), a program that encourages residents to call 9-1-1 to report suspected impaired drivers to the police, has been expanded from Saskatoon to Regina.
“Drinking and driving is the number one contributing factor in fatal collisions in Saskatchewan,” Tim McMillan, minister responsible for SGI said.
“RID empowers the public to help Regina law enforcement in removing impaired drivers from our roads. It also serves as a warning that there are many eyes on the lookout for anyone driving under the influence.”
The RID program is a spearheaded by SGI, the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) and the Regina Police Service with support from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Students Against Drinking and Driving and Rawlco Radio.
Since its inception in Saskatoon in March 2010, law enforcement has received more than 1,050 calls, resulting in 71 impaired driving charges being laid.
