Only 45% of Canadian drivers feel they are very prepared to immediately take the proper steps required after a car accident, a Carstar survey found.
Just 33% of drivers are very likely to remember to gather all pertinent information at the scene of an accident, an Angus Reid public opinion poll commissioned by Carstar found.
Forty per cent of male drivers indicated they were very likely to remember to gather all information at the scene of an accident, while only 27% of women thought they were very likely to do the same.
Carstar has created a form — the Carstar Collision Accident Check List is available for download on the company’s site — that identifies important steps to follow and critical information required after an accident.
Only 61% of Canadian drivers are aware that the responsibility of knowing where to take their car after an accident rests with them.
Some respondent thought it was up to the police (13%), the towing company (9%) or the insurance company (11%).
While 83% of drivers knew what to do with their vehicle immediately after an accident, only 71% of drivers aged 18 to 34 knew what to do.
