Glenn McGillivray of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and his wife Sandra are planning a dinner/dance to raise funds to send their son, Spencer, to Kelowna, B.C. in July 2010 to take part in an intensive therapy developed in Europe.
Spencer, 12, has cerebral palsy (CP). “Although CP is not curable, Spencer has come a long way over the years,” McGillivray said in a statement. “However, with CP, there can only be further progress with hard work, persistence and intensive therapies.”
The therapy, known as MNRI, has been very successful with children who have cerebral palsy.
The goal of MNRI is to restore neuro-sensory motor development and integration. This is done through a series of exercises to facilitate cognitive development.
The cost of the therapy is $1,000/day for 10 days plus airfare, accommodations, meals, etc.
The McGillivrays met with the principal physiotherapist earlier this year. She assessed Spencer and gave his parents a few daily exercises to do.
The McGillivrays say they have already seen some small gains, which is why they feel the need to make the trip to Kelowna.
The fundraising event is planned for Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Le Dome banquet hall in Oakville.
The cost is $100 per adult and $50 per child, which includes dinner, drinks, dancing and prizes. Tickets can be ordered from Glenn McGillivray at gmcgillivray@iclr.org
If you are unable to attend but would like to help, any donation of funds or prizes would be greatly appreciated. The family is accepting electronic donations via PayPal through the account email gmcgillivray@iclr.org
