A minor, Magnitude 4.4 tremor shook Manitoba and Saskatchewan in the early morning of Feb 1, 2012.
Data from the U.S. Geological Survey located the quake at approximately five kilometers below the surface.
“The epicentre is pinpointed to near Esterhazy, Sask., where geologists have noted a history of minor earthquakes,” the Winnipeg Free Press reported.
No damage was reported as a result of the quake.
Speakers at a conference for the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) recently warned that the Prairies were not immune from earthquake activity.
