More storm activity anticipated

The number of hurricanes and tropical storms anticipated to form in this year’s Atlantic hurricane season has been increased, according to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The administration recently released its updated outlook, which references an expected 18 to 21 tropical stormsnine to 11 of which will become hurricanesthat will form during the current season that wraps up at the end of November. The total number includes the seven tropical stormstwo of which became major hurricanesthat have already occurred this year.
Scientists at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, Hurricane Research Division and the National Hurricane Center, consent that the outlook will see 11 to 14 more tropical storms seven to nine of which will become hurricanes for the rest of the year.
“Most of the activity is still expected to occur during the climatological peak months of August-October,” according to NOAA.
Above-average Atlantic Ocean temperatures and exceptionally favourable wind and air pressure patterns as among the conditions that will persist and give rise to the unusual hurricane activity.
The NOAA’s May predictions estimated 12 to 15 tropical storms would form this season, with seven to nine becoming hurricanes.
