The Atlantic Climate Adaptation Solutions Association and New Brunswick government will be hosting an event focused on climate change adaptation in Fredericton this November, including workshops on how to plan for events like coastal flooding.
“Preparing for Climate 2100 – Tools and strategies for NB communities,” will run from Nov. 14 to 16 and will focus on assessing and managing risk and vulnerabilities for climate change-related events. It will present tools and resources developed by the New Brunswick Regional Adaptation Collaborative’s work, along with workshops on how to use the tools.
“Our government is aware of the impact of weather-related events and is involved in many projects to improve understanding, provide technical guidance and support improved resiliency of our communities into the future,” provincial environment and local government minister Bruce Fitch noted in a statement. “I encourage all New Brunswickers interested in climate change and adaptation to register.”
New Brunswick saw major flooding in early 2012 in the Perth-Andover and Tobique First Nation regions. Earlier this month, the province announced flood mitigation measures, including about $8 million for relocation and flood-proofing programs.
