Fred Plant assumed the role of president of the Canadian Independent Adjusters Association during the Presidents Dinner at the associations annual general meeting and conference in Winnipeg.
Miles Barber, immediate past-president, passed the presidential hat, noting Plant would bring insight and a fresh perspective to the job. Trust Fred, he said.
Plant spoke of his enthusiasm for the position.
It is an absolute honour to be standing here, Plant said. This is the Everest.
He told the delegates he learned a lot over the last year by watching and listening to Barber.
Miles is a rare individual (he) was superlative in what he did, Plant said. Sincere thanks to Miles on behalf of all the CIAA.
Plant might have learned something about the job from his father as well, who was president in 1988. Exactly 20 years later the junior Plant proudly takes on the reins of presidency.
He said in a previous interview has a number of goals he has set for himself as president, which include getting independent adjusters more involved in CIAA and to open the lines of communication with insurers, which Plant believes is essential in ensuring that a future exists for independents in this country.
(To be) given the responsibility and the trust to carry the mantle forward is not something I take lightly, Plant said.
