No-fly lists implemented in Canada

A new policy bestows airport personnel with the power to turn suspicious travelers away and ban from all them from all Canadian flights without explanation, according to Transportation Minister Jean Lapierre.
An anti-terrorism plan will also be initiated according to Lapierre and he elaborates that this plan will develop a secret no-fly list that will be distributed to all airlines.
“We are going to develop the list, with the criteria, then share it with the airlines and if anybody tries to buy a ticket under those names, they will never get on an airplane,” Lapierre recently told reporters.
The transportation minister himself will be deciding who will be banned from flying in Canada.
“The list will be reviewed regularly and it will be enriched by input from CSIS, RCMP and other security agencies, Lapierre says.
“Passenger Protect” is the title bestowed to this new aviation initiative, which makes up part of a recently announced security review for all Canada’s transportation mediums.
Lapierre says there is not a set criteria being implemented in order to recognize who will be placed on the no-fly list. Race and nationality will not be factors to distinguish placement on the list. The list will be not made public and there will be no formal appeal for those whose names are included.
IN addition to passenger project Lapierre also introduced a transportation security strategy. He will meet with key players in the ground transportation system in light of the recent subway attacks in London.
