Nearly 30% of Ontarians admitted to driving while under the influence “at least once” in the past year, according to CAA’s Traffic Safety Culture survey.
CAA surveyed 2,000 Canadians, 600 of which were from Ontario.
The survey found 27% of Ontarians questioned admitted to driving under the influence at least once in the past year.
Eighteen per cent admitted they drove when they believe they have been at or over the legal limit in the last 12 months. Of the 18%, seven per cent said they did it “just once,” 10% answered “rarely” and one per cent admitted they have driven fairly often when they thought they were close to or over the legal limit.
This is in spite of the fact that 97% of Ontarians say it is socially unacceptable for a driver to get behind the wheel when they have had too much to drink.
