Provincial fire crews in Saskatchewan are now fighting more than 100 wildfires in the province.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says hot, dry weather forecast for the rest of the week, along with scattered storms producing lightning, is going to keep driving that number up.

The agency says fire crews are now “fully engaged” in managing the situation.

The province is looking into hiring residents with firefighting training from northern communities, borrowing staff from local fire departments and asking for more resources from national counterparts.

Dozens of homes in northern Saskatchewan have been evacuated as fires burn close to communities.

Portions of Highways 102 and 106 are also under threat and may need to be closed if the situation worsens.
