The southeast region of the United States is most vulnerable to tropical cyclones coming ashore in 2010, according to the January update of Guy Carpenter’s GC ForeCat.
The forecasted landfall rate of tropical cyclones in the southeast region (the coastline from the Atlantic Florida-Georgia border to Cape Hatteras) is 0.70, according to Guy Carpenter. This is well above the average landfall rate of 0.41.
The northeast region (the coastline from Cape Hatteras to Maine) is predicted to have a 0.2 mean rate of landfall for 2010, which is the same as the long-term average, the report shows.
The regions of Florida and the Gulf have below-average mean landfalls of 0.46 and 0.59 respectively.
Guy Carpenter’s GC ForeCat is developed in collaboration with WSI corporation, which provides pre-season hurricane landfall forecast rates for different regions in the United States.
Monthly updates are anticipated up to and including May.
