State Farm has donated $6,000 towards the efforts of the Canadian Red Cross in assisting New Brunswick residents affected by torrential rain and severe flooding in December 2010.
Over the course of two days in mid-December, some regions of New Brunswick – including St. Stephen, Grand Manan, Fredericton and Gagetown – each received between 100 and 173 mm of rain.
The Canadian Red Cross has been working in areas of southwestern and central New Brunswick most affected by the deluge. More than 400 families were affected, and the Red Cross provided necessities such as shelter, food and water, clothing, emergency replacement of medical supplies and other personal services, as well as cleanup kits and help with a number of flood-related expenses.
“In addition to providing emergency shelter and other support immediately after the flood, much of our effort has focused on helping individuals and families facing financial hardship due to a range of extraordinary flood-related expenses over and above repairs to damaged homes,” said Bill Lawlor, director of disaster management for Atlantic Canada with the Canadian Red Cross.
