The votes are in and Toronto has gained the dubious distinction of having five of the 10 worst roads in Ontario, say the put-upon drivers forced to manoeuvre the questionable infrastructure.

Dufferin Street – a perennial contender on the worst-of-the-worst list – was catapulted to the top this year, notes a statement from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). Eighty percent of those who voted for the beleaguered roadway complained about the ample potholes and crumbling pavement.

Filling out the list – in order of disappointment – was Bunting Road in St. Catharines, Burlington Street East in Hamilton, Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls, Kraft Creek Road in Timmins, Lawrence Avenue East in Toronto, Carling Avenue in Ottawa, Finch Avenue West in Toronto, Kingston Road in Toronto and Bayview Avenue in Toronto.

CAA’s Worst Roads campaign, which ran over four weeks, received almost 10,000 votes from across the province. “Whether it is congestion, potholes or traffic lights, the public wants to see improvements made to these roads by local municipalities,” says Faye Lyons, government relations specialist for the CAA’s South Central Ontario office.
