Independent brokerages Sharp Insurance and Rogers Insurance have launched floodinsurance.ca, an online resource offering flood-related topics, flood watch advisories, quick quote options and online support chat features for Alberta residents looking to learn about coverage options.

The website launch, announced on Monday, educates consumers on flood risks, flood mitigation and water coverage options. “There is a lot of talk about flood insurance, but not a lot of information out there on what exactly is covered and what Albertans should do in the event of a claim,” the joint release said. Floodinsurance.ca researches rates and coverage

Floodinsurance.ca researches rates and coverage on “behalf of the client and delivers quotes within the hour,” the release claimed.

Flood insurance, as defined by the major providers of this new coverage, is water damage caused by freshwater sources which include rivers, lakes, torrential downpour, melting snow and sewer back up as the result of overland water. “Many companies are finding ways to adapt to the changing environment in order to provide Albertans with better water coverage,” the release said. “Floodinsurance.ca is the only website that will be able to compare what each company has to offer for water protection at competitive pricing.” [click image below to enlarge]

The website release comes on the heels of the announcement on May 25 that Co-operators General Insurance Company is offering new insurance coverage for overland flooding in Alberta. The coverage, available throughout Alberta, with plans “currently underway to make the product available across the country,” is designed to protect homes against the most common causes of water damage – flooding caused by an overflow from a body of water, sewer/water backup and accumulation of surface water caused by heavy rain, The Co-operators said in a press release at the time.

The Co-operators coverage is available as an endorsement to Co-operators General Insurance Company homeowners’ insurance policies in Alberta and available for purchase as of May 25. It will be added to existing policies that currently have coverage for sewer/water backup, upon renewal.

The new website is a collaborative project between Sharp Insurance, a technology-oriented insurance brokerage and Rogers Insurance, one of Canada’s largest independent brokerages. Together, they combine over 40 years of industry experience.
