Nearly 300 immobilizer-equipped vehicles in Manitoba were stolen last year because the keys were either left in the ignition or elsewhere in the passenger compartment, Manitoba Public Insurance reported.
The immobilized vehicles were stolen after owners had left their keys in the ignition, left a running vehicle unattended or stored keys within the glove box, console or under the floor mats.
A further 114 vehicles were stolen after the keys were removed from the vehicles owner’s residence, purse, jacket or left accessible at a party or bar, according to MPI claims data.

Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), SCM Risk Management Services (RMS) and Compu-Quote have launched a pilot study of the iClarify data validation service.
The pilot project involves 30 Ontario brokers that use Compu-Quote’s comparative rating application.
IBAO brokers will be the first to implement iClarify services that will pre-populate data elements necessary to generate an accurate replacement cost and provide streetscape imagery of the residence being quoted.
