A British Columbia resident was ordered by a B.C. Supreme Court judge to pay the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) Cdn$87,337 in damages to recover the costs paid out for stolen vehicle claims.
The ruling concludes a civil action filed by ICBC against Cole Owens in November 2006. The litigation related to four stolen vehicle claims dating back to 2003.
ICBC sought to recover the costs paid out for the stolen vehicle claims, plus the costs to investigate, legal fees and punitive damages.
The scheme was uncovered in 2004, when Nanaimo RCMP searched Adams’ home and found three dismantled vehicles and the license plate from the fourth stolen vehicle.

Seneca College’s Financial Services Practitioner program has launched a free online test to help prospective students determine if they are suited for a career in the insurance industry.
The short pre-screening test profiles education, employment and personality and can be completed before applying for the Financial Services Practitioner program. The two-semester program is designed to prepare students for careers in sales and marketing in the financial services industry, a Seneca release explains.
In addition to the online pre-evaluation process, students enrolled in the program are tested again to help faculty with placing students in appropriate co-op placements, the release adds.
