Three Toronto men have been charged in connection with the alleged fraudulent application for insurance benefits, York Regional Police (YRP) reported.
A single motor vehicle collision occurred in the Town of Georgina on July 2, 2007. Subsequent to that, two of the accused allegedly submitted fraudulent insurance claims for extensive medical treatment, assessments and benefits as a result of their injuries, the YRP report in a release.
The third was allegedly aware of the fraudulent claims, according to an investigation, which led to his being charged as well.
The insurance company paid out Cdn$10,000 for the claims, the YRP reports.
The accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket, Ont. on Apr. 10, 2008.

A 48-year-old Kingston man has been charged with attempted fraud and public mischief after allegedly failing to advise police that his van hadn’t been stolen after all.
The man reported his van stolen to the police and subsequently the insurance company was informed and a claim was filed, according to a Kingston Police release.
At that time, the owner was not aware that his vehicle had been towed by a private towing company and impounded for being parked in a no parking area. The tow had not been entered into the books at that time.
However, it is alleged that a friend of the owner told him it had, in fact, been towed. He neglected to advise the investigator a week later that his van had not been stolen, only impounded, the police report.
Further to that, the tow yard contacted the owner to let him know that his van was impounded. During this time, the owner accepted a settlement with the insurance company, the police note.
The tow yard found an insurance slip in the van and contacted the insurance company to again report that the van had been impounded. The insurance company contacted the Kingston Police.
The owner turned himself in to the police.
