Fifteen lives were saved and 271 injuries were prevented during 62,370 roadside inspections performed in 2007, according to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Association (CVSA).
The CVSA sponsors Roadcheck, a program which dispatches federal, state, provincial and local inspectors to more than 1,000 locations across the continent to conduct comprehensive North American Standard Level I Inspections.
There are more than 3.5-million roadside inspections conducted across North America annually, according to a release.
“CVSA plays a pivotal role in making our roadways safer, and Roadcheck is just one of the many methods used to accomplish that goal,” said John H. Hill, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. “Partnering with CVSA has been a great success and the statistics prove it. Roadcheck and other enforcement activities conducted throughout the year save lives.”

Travelers Acceptance Corporation and CARSTAR Automotive Canada have announced the formation of a partnership.
Through Travelers Automotive Aftermarket Finance Program, CARSTAR locations can provide point-of-sale financing for its customers, allowing for added choice and hassle-free repair, a joint release says.
The program will roll out province by province, beginning with Ontario, followed by BC, Alberta, the Atlantic provinces, the Prairies and Quebec.
