Gore Mutual Insurance Company’s foundation has donated Cdn$500,000 to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, one of the largest donations the hospital’s foundation has ever received.
Gore Mutual requested its donation be used to improve treatment at Cambridge Memorial Hospital’s endoscopy unit.
The donation would allow 300 more screening cases each year and reduce wait times significantly.
“One of Gore Mutual’s core values is a commitment to our community,” said Bill Hetherington, chairman of the board at the Gore Mutual Insurance Company. “With this donation, the Cambridge Memorial Hospital will be able to purchase new endoscopy equipment. The key to colorectal cancer treatment is early detection and treatment.”
Beatrice Mudge, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, said the much-needed investment would “help the hospital meet its screening targets for colorectal cancer set by Cancer Care Ontario, and will go a long way to support cancer prevention in our community.”

Aviva is continuing to invest in 2008 as a full partner of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC)’s Broker Identity Program.
IBAC launched the BIP program in 1989. It is a branding campaign for more than 32,000 insurance brokers; in 2007, it was supported by more than 20 leading insurance companies.
The centrepiece of the program is the BIP symbol known as the BIPPER. The symbol captures the value that insurance brokers bring their clients coverage and security.
“We have no doubt that Aviva realizes the advisory role brokers play in dealing with consumers,” IBAC said in a press release. “In today’s marketplace, insurance brokers provide consumers with the best possible coverage, expert advice and the value-added that only they can offer. By investing in the program, Aviva proves to be a valuable partner to brokers.”
