What’s New: In Brief (September 30, 2008)

AXIS Reinsurance Company, a subsidiary of AXIS Capital Holdings Limited, has been authorized to operate as a branch insurer underwriting property and casualty insurance and reinsurance business in Canada.
“We are looking forward to bringing our specialized capabilities in both insurance and reinsurance to bear as we establish our branch in Canada,” Dennis Reding, COO of AXIS Capital, commented in a release. “This branch will be instrumental in advancing our long-term commitment to provide customized coverage solutions for both local and multinational clients.”

Robert Merizzi has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer of operations and technology for Aviva Canada, Inc.
Merizzi will assume the role on Oct. 6, 2008.
He will lead a broad operations mandate including information technology, corporate security, facilities and Aviva’s corporate project office.
Merizzi was most recently senior vice president, operational excellence with Sun Life Financial.
