Rosanna Beattie, a student at Frontenac Secondary School in Kingston, is the 2009 recipient of the Anna Pyle Memorial Scholarship, Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) has announced.
The award was presented at the IBAO-sponsored Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) Annual Conference at Sheridan College in Oakville.
Anna Pyle was killed by a drunk driver in the 1980s and the IBAO-sponsored scholarship was set up in her honour. Every year it is awarded to a deserving OSAID student who demonstrates outstanding community involvement and leadership, the IBAO says in a release.
Beattie is very active in her local OSAID Chapter and strives to increase student awareness against impaired driving by working with many local organizations and groups to educate Ontario’s teens about the dangers of impaired driving.

The commercial insurance market is still evolving with respect to green building exposures, according to Marsh.
“As underwriters become more adept at assessing and quantifying risks associated with green building, we may see a growth of green-building-specific insurance coverages,” Catha Pavloff, LEED Accredited Professional, a senior vice president of Marsh and leader of the firm’s Green Building Team, noted in a release.
As the number of green building projects continues to grown, and owners, contractors, architects, engineers and builders have expressed concern about the risks that might be associated with these projects, the release notes.
The largest concern is financial risk, followed by standard of care and related potential legal risk, according to a Marsh report based on feedback from 55 senior executives involved in green design.
