Residents in Queen Charlotte/ Haidi Gwaii and the North Coast of British Columbia awoke to a 6.5 magnitude earthquake on Nov. 17, 2009 morning.
As of press time there were no reports of major damage.
The quake occurred near the southern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands region, 162 km south of Queen Charlotte City, and was felt to distances of more than 500 km, according to Earthquakes Canada.
More than 100 aftershocks were recorded, with the largest at a magnitude of 5.5 a few minutes after the initial earthquake, the agency reports.
The largest historical earthquake in Canada at a magnitude of 8.1, occurred along the Queen Charlotte fault — what Earthquakes Canada refers to as Canada’s equivalent of the San Andreas fault — on Aug. 22, 1949.

PPG Automotive Refinish’s new MVP training courses centered on developing people and organizations in collision repair have earned accreditation from I-CAR and the Automotive Management Institute (AMI).
The set of three interrelated MVP courses, Job Relations, Job Instruction and Job Methods, are designed to develop the skills of managers and team leaders in their effort to build teamwork in their organization and create a productive workforce, according to PPG.
I-CAR students are eligible to receive 3.5 Gold Class points for each of the three courses, with AMI students eligible to receive 28 Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) credits each, according to a PPG release.
