Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Paul Horgan CEO of Zurich’s Global Corporate in North America (GCiNA) business, effective immediately.

Paul Horgan joined Zurich as chief underwriting officer for GCiNA in 2007

Horgan, previously Head of Group Reinsurance, is now accountable for the direction, management and performance of GCiNA, a major business area within North America, which recorded gross written premiums and policy fees of US$3.7 billion last year, Zurich American Insurance Company said in a press release on Thursday. Horgan will play a “significant role in the success of both Global Corporate and the wider General Insurance business goals,” Zurich said in the release.

Horgan succeeds Daniel Riordan, who left Zurich to “pursue professional opportunities outside of the company.”

As a member of the Global Corporate Executive team, Horgan will be based in New York City and will report to Thomas Huerlimann, CEO, Global Corporate.

“I am delighted to welcome Paul to our team,” Huerlimann said in the release. “His broad technical expertise in various areas of the insurance industry, his in-depth knowledge of Zurich and his proven leadership capabilities make him the ideal candidate to lead our important Global Corporate in North America business into the future.”

Horgan joined Zurich as chief underwriting officer for GCiNA in 2007. He was appointed to Head of Group Reinsurance in 2012. Prior to joining Zurich, he held a number of senior roles at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. His career has included roles in reinsurance, underwriting, finance, marketing and account management.

Horgan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the State University of Maine, and an MBA in finance from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Zurich Insurance Group is a multi-line insurer with more than 55,000 employees, providing a wide range of general insurance and life insurance products and services. In North America, Zurich is a commercial property casualty insurance provider serving the global corporate, large corporate, middle market, specialties and program sectors.
