Jardine Lloyd Thompson to open Halifax office serving construction, healthcare, real estate

Commercial insurance brokerage Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada Inc. announced Monday it will be opening a new regional office in Halifax.

JLT Canada’s Halifax office will “initially” focus on construction, healthcare, life sciences and real estate, and will also support JLT Canada’s public sector practice.

JLT Canada has its head office in Toronto, plus offices in Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Victoria and Vancouver. It also has a sixth in Surrey, about 30 kilometres southeast of downtown Vancouver.

JLT Canada stated Monday that Peter Campbell will lead the Halifax office.

“We have identified Halifax as the ideal operational hub from which to serve our Atlantic Canada-based clients,” JLT Canada chief executive officer David Richards stated in a release.

Campbell “will soon be joined by other industry specialists upon completion of their contractual obligations, all of whom have extensive experience in their chosen specialty areas,” JLT Canada added.

“By combining our specialty capability and world-class risk management expertise with an enhanced geographic footprint in Canada, we will improve our national client service capabilities and accelerate our growth strategy,” JLT Canada chairman Mike Methley stated in the release Monday.

JLT Canada also operates Thistle Underwriting Services, formerly known as Northern Underwriting Services, a managing general agent specializing in mining, forestry, small- to mid-size enterprises and home insurance.

JLT Canada is a member of the Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, which in 2014 was ranked eighth worldwide, by Finaccord Ltd., by commercial non-life broking revenues in 2013. Finnacord released its rankings in October in a report titled Global Insurance Broking: A Strategic Review of the World’s Top 150 Commercial Non-Life Insurance Brokers.
