In Memory

It is with great sadness CU announces the passing of Alex Kennedy, former CEO of the Property and Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation (PACICC), at the age of 71. Kennedy was born in Scotland, and graduated with his Master of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Glascow. In Scotland, he was a member of the Law Society and gained experienced in both private practice and government.

In 1969, Kennedy moved to Newfoundland, where he was called to the Bar and joined the province’s Department of Justice as legislative counsel.

Just two years later, he came to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) as counsel, becoming assistant general counsel in 1978 and then general counsel in 1980. In 1997 he became executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Upon his retirement from IBC in 1998, Kennedy moved into the role of PACICC CEO in early 1999, where he remained until December, 2003.

Kennedy was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the International Association of Defence Counsel and the Defence Research Institute. Our deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
