(TORONTO) — 30 Forensic Engineering, Canada’s leading and fully-independent multi-disciplinary forensics firm, is pleased to announce that the Transportation Safety Group will be presenting a ‘School Site Planning and Designing for Safety’ seminar at the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL) ‘Children’s Health and the Environment Workshop & Symposium’.X X The Human Environments Analysis Laboratory is a state-of-the-art, inter-disciplinary research and training environment which specializes in the production, evaluation, synthesis, dissemination and mobilization of evidence to support effective policies, programs and professional practice aimed at creating healthy and vibrant communities. They examine social and physical environments from the scale of entire regions down to the level of individual buildings or open spaces and their inhabitants.
Russell Brownlee, M.A.Sc., FITE, P.Eng. and Principal of 30 Forensic Engineering’s Transportation Safety Group will be leading the workshop. The presentation will begin with a brief overview of the past, present and future of school site planning and the related transportation facilities. It will systematically go through common school planning and design issues, potential remedial actions, and opportunities to reduce collision risk. Each concept will be demonstrated with examples from urban and rural schools in the greater golden horseshoe area. The actual and perceived safety of a school site and its approaches has a significant effect on a parent’s and a student’s willingness to travel to school as a pedestrian or bicyclist.
