The Canadian Insurance Congress, scheduled for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on June 25-27, 2006, has been cancelled.
Don Smith, the Congress organizer, announced the decision as a result of registration response. “I could not possibly ask our speakers to come all the way to P.E.I. to address a near empty room,” Smith said.
Speakers at the conference were to tackle a broad sweep of insurance themes, including national and global industry outlooks, as well as panel discussions on reinsurance and the “industry’s human capital deficit.”
Another panel was to discuss insurance issues in Atlantic Canada.
Social events included bus and walking tours of Prince Edward Island.
All registrants have been notified of the cancellation, the organizers said in a press release, and fees will be promptly refunded.
“I wish to thank those folks who have supported the Congress over many years,” Smith said.
Talks are underway with a third party that plans to assume the event going forward into 2007, under energetic new leadership, with renewed focus and a revised format.
