Fire damage maps show 433 lots destroyed, 84 damaged in Slave Lake area wildfires

The Government of Alberta has posted detailed wildfire damage maps showing a total of 433 lots destroyed in the Town of Slave Lake and Municipal District of Lesser Slave River areas, with another 84 damaged.
The maps show 374 lots destroyed in the Town of Slave Lake, with another 52 damaged. In the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River, 59 lots have been destroyed and another 32 damaged.

“Today, some Albertans affected by the Slave Lake fire received the heartbreaking news that their homes and possessions or places of business have been severely damaged or destroyed,” Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach announced in a press release. “Government support teams have been assembled and dispatched to all evacuation centres to assist evacuees.
“Their first priority is assessing housing and income support needs and helping with Red Cross registrations. But services are also being delivered from health professionals and counselors.
“In short, the teams are helping Albertans access programs, services and counseling as they begin the process of recovery after this unprecedented event.
